This blog is designed to encourage parent-teacher communication. I will post announcements for parents of my first graders here so they can access it any time! This blog will also be used to motivate student learning. Look for shared writing, photos of class events, and comments from students about what they are learning! Share the website with grandparents and friends...they must have the correct web address to find this blog.

Information for next week...
Phonics: We will continue working with “long vowels” and the “sneaky e” rule this week. Long vowels are when the vowel says its name—not the sound! We will continue reviewing the following digraphs: /sh/, /th/, and /ch/. Digraphs are “2 letters that go together to make 1 sound.” Ask your child for the hand motions after Wednesday!
**I have started reading Matilda to the class. Reading a chapter book is helping their comprehension skills. Plus, it is such a cute story and the kids LOVE it!
Math: We will continue studying units of measurement this week. We will work with rulers as well as comparing lengths of non-standard units of measurement — like linking cubes, “inch worms,” and other math manipulatives.
Writing: Children are beginning to improve with their writing! We are learning to write several sentences and adding details. Keep up the good work!
Extra Information:
-Spring pictures will be made Thursday (April 1st).
-Extra yearbooks will be sold 1st come, 1st serve Wednesday, March 31 in the library for $35.00.
-The class seems to have “spring fever” already, so please remind your child about classroom rules and appropriate school behavior!
-Don’t forget to be working on your homework chart in your folder. Your children should be reading a good bit at night, but not many are coloring in their monthly reading paper—please help them remember!!
-Remember to send your child’s snack EVERYDAY! THANKS, LAYLA for bringing extra snack to share with your friends!!
-“Show and tell” was a huge motivator for the class. I may do it more often, but I will always send a note beforehand, so please keep toys at home unless I ask for them!! Thanks!

Happy Dr. Seuss Week!!
Posing with all of my "things!!!" The class looked so cute Tuesday!! Happy Birthday, Dr. Seuss!

Cooking with Kindergartners...always a fun experience!! We all got to help stir the eggs...Zachary is helping stir in the food coloring!
The kids are not too sure about what is cooking in front of them...but they all enjoyed the snack once it was ready. Only one child did not want to try our eggs, so I thought we were pretty brave!

FRIENDS ARE FUN!!! I just love these kids!!!
Miss Ginny turned the pages to Green Eggs and Ham as we listened to Rick and Bubba read it on the radio!!
READING IS COOL day!! Check out these "cool dudes" in their shades!!

These would be good for boys or girls and there are TONS of nonfiction books your children will be interested in as well. I am sure you can pick out your own books, but I just wanted to let you know some that I love or think would help your child.
As always, I get bonus points when you purchase books that I can use to buy books for our classroom library. I have my eye set on several of these that I know the class will LOVE, so if you can,
please order books this time!
Thanks for all you do! MM
