Pumpkin Carving FUN!!!

Poor pumpkin...you have no idea what is in store for you!!! Thanks, Chante' for bringing us this pumpkin!

Here are some snapshots of the kids' first reactions to the "guts" of the pumpkin. Everyone stuck their hand inside the pumpkin to help clean it out!

How funny are these pictures of Sarah and the pumpkin?!?!? Sarah was the only student who REALLY did not like the guts of the pumpkin...most LOVED them. These pictures were taken in a short span of a few seconds...she could not wait to get the gunk off of her hands...Sarah's expressions are priceless!

And...now we begin the carving of our jack-o-lantern's face! The class lined up and carefully assisted me as we made small cuts to the pumpkin!

"Be extra careful with that knife!!!" HA! Some kids wanted to really dig in with the carving knife...you notice my hands are never very far away!!

After everyone had a chance to cut a little, I finished carving the pumpkin! The kids were super excited as the pieces fell out

Our jack-o-lantern glowing with the lights off!! We were so proud!

The finished product!!! Not too bad for 15 5 & 6 year-olds!!!

You are invited to Trunk-or-Treat!!!

My family and I are members of Taylorville United Methodist Church, and we are having our annual "Trunk-or-Treat" Wednesday night at 6:00. Our church is located right across from Food World on Bear Creek Road. Members of our church will have decorated the trunks of their cars and the cars will be backed in a circle in the parking lot. We will have candy to give children as they trick-or-treat around the circle of cars. Wear your costumes, bring a bag or bucket, and have some fun with us at Taylorville Methodist Church!!! Mr. Kelley, Neal Thomas, Daisy Mae, and I will be there looking for you and your family!!

Rain, Rain, Go AWAY! We Need more fun games to play!!!

We had a little game day this afternoon since we could not go outside...raining once again! We played Memory (two kinds), CandyLand, and Cootie. CandyLand and Cootie were the definite favorites!! If you have any of these kinds of board games that you do not play with at home anymore, I would love to put them to good use in the classroom! Thanks!

We love these puzzles!!

Thanks, Jaelyn, for the cool Halloween puzzles! We got to play with them after our math lesson today, and the kids LOVED them!!

Zachary getting started.

Brooklin having fun with his skeleton puzzle!

I hope that Matthew, Sarah, Deacon, and Hope did not mix up their puzzle pieces!
Jaelyn, Connor, LaDarius, and Alyssa are making progress!
Sneaky Alyssa...she was really working on her puzzle under the table! She just jumped in the other picture!! Check out those Halloween pants!!
Teamwork is always fun for Micah and LaDarius...LaDarius jumped in the other picture, too! Funny kids!!!

Chante' and Katlyn wanted to read a Halloween book after they put their puzzle together.
Layla and Kylie were reading and working on Kylie's puzzle.

Petting Zoo at the Pumpkin Patch!

Dear Parents,
There is a petting zoo at the Grand Old Pumpkin Patch farm. Each child has the opportunity to buy 2 cups for $1.00. I wanted you to be aware that you may want to bring a few dollars to buy this food for your child to feed the animals. IF YOU ARE NOT COMING WITH US, please send $1.00 for your child…other parents should not feel responsible for purchasing this for your child. I will keep up with this money for your child and buy their cups of food. Thanks! MM

Scholastic Book Order is coming home today!!

There is a Super Selection of books—they are super cheap, too! This December packet has lots of "kits" that your children are really excited about!! If you would like some of these books to be “Christmas surprises,” I can call you to pick the books up in secret! Or…I can try to wrap them up so your kids cannot see the titles/gifts that come with them! PLEASE think about taking advantage of this Christmas Sale Order Form!! It may help you do some shopping, and all sales help me order new books for our classroom. The Scholastic Book Clubs is a great resource for our classroom!! Thanks!

All orders will be due Friday, November 6th!

Look for Ghosts on your child's work today!

We made the cutest ghosts today out of the Blow-Pops Micah brought for his birthday! But, I do not have pictures because I left my camera on my dining room table today. So, be sure to check out your child's cute ghost before they eat it!!!

We have a BUSY week this week! Please make sure you read all announcements below!! Thanks in advance for keeping up with everything!!!

We are ready for the Pumpkin Patch!!

The shirts are ready for the field trip! Thanks so much to Deacon's mom, Nikki, Jaelyn's mom, Jeana, and Alyssa's mom, Daphne, for all of your help with the shirts! It would have been so much harder on me without your help! The kids had a great time...and we will look fantastic next Friday!!

Pumpkin Patch Reminders...SUPER IMPORTANT!!

· Be here EARLY Friday morning or your child will be left! The buses are LEAVING the school at 8:00, so your child needs to be here no later than 7:45.

-Your child needs to bring a snack and drink for the bus ride down, a sack lunch with drink—drinks for lunch will go in a cooler.

-I need a parent to volunteer to carry the lunches in their car. I also need someone to bring a cooler for our class to use. You will be responsible for bringing it in your car to the pumpkin patch!

-ALL students must ride the bus to Clanton, but you may sign your child out to ride home with you. There is a gift shop, but PLEASE do not purchase gifts until after the buses leave…I do not want any hurt feelings and every child does not have a parent going. Also, parents who are not going, please do not send any money for the gift shop! I will not be keeping up with money!

-We will return to the school at 3:30. You need to be here to pick up your child unless he/she goes to extended day!!

I hate to say it, but the flu may be better...

Knock on wood...we won't get the flu on top of this virus! My family and I have got a terrible little virus that has made us sick! All three of us went to the doctor yesterday morning, and we were all diagnosed with a virus...Neal Thomas and I have a bad cough, runny nose, and upper respiratory system troubles, but poor Kelley has got viral meningitis...a super bad headache that won't leave him alone! Strange how the same virus can make us feel so bad in different parts of the body! There is no medicine for a virus...we just have to treat the symptoms.

I will be out again tomorrow, but plan to be at school feeling much better Friday morning! I am so proud of our class because they have been really good for the substitute teachers! It is never easy for me to be out, but the kids are handling it OK! Thanks for all of your support!

Send a change of clothes...

The weather has now changed, and I need you to send a fall/winter change of clothes for your child to have at school. Although restroom related accidents do not happen often, they still can. Also, things get spilled on clothes, etc. Please send a change of clothes in a Ziploc bag with your child's name on it. Make sure you have a full set of clothes--underwear and socks included!

When you send a new set, I will return the summer clothes that you have at school. Remember, if you do not send clothes, you may get a call at work letting you know your child needs something to wear...this really can save you some running around!

Thanks!! MM

Rain, Rain, Go Away! Little Children NEED to play!!!

This picture was taken yesterday afternoon from my front yard. I walked by my front door, and it seemed to be "glowing" outside...so I went out hoping to see a pretty sunset. Instead, I saw a better picture--the clouds were moving out of the sky...for a little while, at least! Kelley and I took Neal Thomas and Daisy Mae for a walk and got to see stars...something we have not seen in a while!

I am telling you this because I know you and your children are tired of the rain as well! I know it is hard for them not to be able to go outside and run and play. But, PLEASE allow them to do jumping jacks, run up and down your stairs, or something to burn off some energy! I try so hard to let them be active throughout the day, and I understand they are like little time-bombs full of energy! Imagine working in a primary school where there are almost 800 little time-bombs!!! HA! If you can think of a way to let your child cut loose a little more than usual at home that would be SUPER!!!!!

Thanks for understanding, and as always, thanks for all you do to help us! Have a great Thursday afternoon!!!
