Can you tell we are getting pumped up for the Christmas Season?!?!

I know it is a little early for the Christmas background...but I just can't wait for December to start!!! I hope you have heard about the "magic work box" Santa left at my house...if not ask about it! I also have magic Rudolph and Santa carpets...Kindergarten is magical!!!.

-I am planning some precious crafts during the month of December and we need your help to purchase supplies! I need every child to send $5.00 to pay for their crafts and a Christmas gift for you!

-We will also be making “Rudolph Sweatshirts” to wear on our field trip December 9th. Please send a white sweatshirt to school no later than Wednesday, December 2nd! We will be painting shirts Friday afternoon (the 4th) at 1:30 if you would like to come and help us!

Lunch menu...

The December lunch menu is on the back of this week's Primary Bulletin. The office is trying to save paper. I hope that you did not miss November's menu...so, be looking for the next month's menu on the Primary Bulletin!!!

Breakfast with Santa!!

My mom is a sponsor of the Tuscaloosa Civinettes, a high school service organization, and they are hosting a BREAKFAST WITH SANTA December 5th! The pancake breakfast will be at FIG, and tickets will be $5 per pancake breakfast. All proceeds will go to benefit PROJECT BLESSING--an organization that helps families in Tuscaloosa! There will be vendors selling PRECIOUS crafts and gifts, and it should be a fun morning! Plus, it will be one more time your child gets to see Santa! I will be the contact person for Taylorville Primary, and there will be a flyer going home Monday, November 30th. All ticket orders will be due Thursday, and tickets will be delivered/sent home Friday, December 4th. I hope you will consider coming and helping this organization and having some fun as well! Our class is getting the "heads-up," so mark your calendars for December 5th!

Thanks, Deacon!

Deacon is bringing us a Christmas tree for the classroom! YAY! We are excited!!

We need a new Christmas Tree!!

Does anyone have access to someone who can get a discount on a new Christmas tree for our class? Last year I decided to retire my class tree of 6 years...it truely looked like "Charlie Brown's" tree...pitiful!! If you have an old one that still looks great or would like to send a new one, I would really appreciate it! If you work in a store or have access to a discount, I will be happy to buy it. The kids always LOVE decorating the tree (and you will love their school-made decorations for your tree at home) but we need a tree to decorate!!! Thanks!

A Picture Scavenger Hunt for MATTER!!!

This morning we went on a scavenger hunt looking for different kinds of matter! The class was divided into pairs, and each pair looked for a specific kind of solid. We went all over the school looking for items to take pictures with. Here are the pictures we took!

Connor and Hope found a "ROUGH" hornets' nest.
Sarah and Matthew found a "SHINY" spider.

Katlyn and Laya found a "WET" water fountain!

Alyssa and Zachary found a "COLORFUL" display in the library!

Jaelyn and Micah found a "FUZZY" bobcat in the library!
Sarah and Matthew found several more "SHINY" items--trophies and a skimboard!
LaDarius and Kylie found a "HARD" turtle shell in the library...the library is full of cool matter!
LaDaius and Deacon found some "SOFT" and "FUZZY" fringe around Ms. Tingle's sign.

Jaelyn and Micah found more "FUZZY" feathers on the wall outside Ms. Tingle's room.

Connor and Hope found that all of the walls in our school are "ROUGH!"

Kylie and LaDarius found a "HARD" column in the main hallway.

Matthew and Sarah found "SHINY" stars outside of Mrs. Bowen's office!

HAHAHAHAHAHA!!! Layla and Katlyn found a "WET" playground!!!

Alyssa and Zachary found a very "COLORFUL" wall display on the Square Hall!

Chante' and Deacon found a soft turkey outside of Mrs. Sullivan's doorway!

The Window Clings...

The window clings did dry and become solid, but they did not cling to the window. Your child will bring home their experiment today. They do look really cool!!! Here is what the class had to say about solids and liquids...

Matthew said, "Water is a liquid. Chalk and a house is a solid."
Hope said, "A liquid is like chicken noodle soup." After I asked, she told me the nooldles are solid!
Zachary said, "We turned the glue different colors to make the window clings."
Layla said, "Juice is a liquid."
Sarah said, "People are solid."
Micah said, "Hearts are solid."
Chante' said, "Our window clings became solids."
Katlyn said, "We made window clings, but they did not stick to the window."
Brooklin said, "Solids are food."
Connor said, "Liquid spreads out."
LaDarius said, "Blood is a liquid."
Alyssa said, "Care Bears are solids."

Jaelyn, Deacon, and Kylie were absent today. We will add their comments Monday!

Here are some snapshots of the kids after they peeled their window cling off of the wax paper. I only had a chance to get a picture of the kids who got here first this morning...the day gets busy quickly!!!

Homework...have your child tell you about the differences between solids and liquids this weekend. They can get some extra practice sorting solids and liquids with you this weekend!!!

Matter: Solids and Liquids

We did several "Matter" activities today. Every child got to make a "window-cling" out of glue. We added food coloring to two bottles of glue, and the kids got to design a window cling with the liquid glue on wax paper. Hopefully, the glue will have dried by tomorrow and we can pull the solid window-cling off of the wax paper and attach them to our window. (This is the first time I have done this experiment, so my fingers are crossed that it will work!!) If it does, the kids can see how some matter changes from a solid to a liquid, and from a liquid to a solid!

Because of the potential mess this experiment could make, I pulled students up in pairs to create their window-cling. During this time, each table was responsible for finding examples of solids and liquids in magazines, cutting them out, and adding the pictures to their table's t-chart. This was the first "group project" we have done, and the kids really did well. They worked together, and I overheard several conversations where they were deciding which column the pictures fit into...I am so impressed that they can work together this way!!

The Red Table: Connor, Layla, and Micah

The Green Table: Zachary, Kylie, Katlyn, and Matthew

The Blue Table: Chante', Brooklin, and Alyssa

The Yellow Table: LaDarius, Sarah, Hope, and Deacon

**If you have any magazines at home that we can use for projects like this, please send them!! Thanks!

After lunch, we got to go on the hayride down to the pumpkin patch! The woods were decorated for Halloween. It was really fun!

Riding past the field of sunflowers...Layla and Kylie were taking it all in!

Alyssa could not decide between her pumpkins!!

Micah and Brooklin in the pumpkin patch looking for a pumpkin.
