Making words with "oa" and "ow"

Hey Parents! Have you ever seen such cute letters?!?!? We used our long o vowel rules to build words last week. That cute "o" is MacKenzie, our new student. The precious "w" is Bailey--she came before Christmas. We are so glad to have these new friends in our classroom!!
We are reviewing the rule: "When 2 vowels go walking, the first one does the talking!" That is why Chante' has her finger over her lip...she is silent! When 2 vowels are together, the first vowel says its LETTER NAME, not the sound!
We tested the "walking vowels rule..." Way to go, first graders!

Updates for this week...

For some reason, I cannot copy and paste our "Mrs. Miller's News for the week of..." so I am asking you to look at the headers on the side of the blog. All of the important information is there, and you are getting a hard copy of it in your child's folder today. Please let me know if you have any questions.

Also, these words and tasks are for next week too. We are learning a lot of new concepts in this lesson, so I wanted to jump start it this week.

Thanks for all you do!

Caleb said, "He brings us magic candy if we have been good."
Jaelyn said, "Sparkle has a magic card to get into the North Pole. It looks like a tag."
Charnayvia said, "Every time we get back in the class Sparkle has moved somewhere."
Zachary said, "Sparkle can fly at night to the North Pole and tell Santa if we have been good or bad."
Chante' said, "He brings us magic candy and he moves around a lot!"
Josh M. said, "You can't pick it up or throw it around. You can only touch one if it is your first elf."

Welcome, BAILEY!!!
