TEST IS FRIDAY!

High Frequency Words—words your child needs to recognize, read, and use in a sentence. We will go over these words daily.

about, books, family, name, people, read, work, writing

Vocabulary: These are words we will learn about through our Storytown Reading program. Remember…your child does not have to read or spell these words. We will be discussing their meaning! Words for this week are:
cozily, interrupted, triumphantly, accomplished, ambition, admire

Sight Words: NEW TEST DATE—WEDNESDAY! Alyssa’s mom has volunteered to test sight words for me and Wednesday is the day that works for her. PRACTICE sight words every night!

Math: We will continue with shape attributes—all students know their two-dimensional shapes, but we will be working with them in different ways. We will:
1. Explain how the shapes are alike and different.
2. Recognize shapes are the same even if they are in a different position.

**Your child will see these are really the same shape. It may take a while, so be patient, but your child will be able to explain how the shape has moved…just ask and discuss it with them! J
3. Vocabulary we will learn that relates to shapes: flip, slide, turn, rotate
**We will be reviewing skills such as tally marks, greater than/less than, and place value. If you see your child is having a hard time with a skill, please help them practice at home!**

Writing: I am constantly reminding the class that they need to TRY to spell words. They do not have to spell words correctly, but sound them out and write what they hear. Conventional spelling will happen later. Encourage your child to ATTEMPT to write. We will also be working on writing more than one sentence about a topic.

Theme: Nutrition and Food Groups continue this week. If you get the Tuscaloosa News, please send inserts from grocery stores to school. We will use the pictures of food for a class project.

Extra Information:
· Students are improving at working independently! You will see how much work they are getting done in their center work folders that go home every Friday. Please review the work with your child, sign the green sheet, and return folders every Monday. Let me know if you have any questions.
